Lacoste was founded in 1933 after Rene Lacoste who was a Seven Grand Slam winner in tennis. The symbol of the crocodile came to be after he was promised a crocodile leather suitcase if he won the match. He ended up losing a match in Boston in 1923.
However, due to the tenacity, he showed in the match he was nicknamed the crocodile.
The brand began to be exported in the 1950s.
In 1994 Lacoste entered the watch industry when they announced at Basel Watch Fair.
In 2006, Lacoste entered a partnership with Movado group, a well-known watch-making company. The watches are quartz or automatic and the materials are sourced in Japan, but assembly is done in Japan or Italy.
The warranty on the watches is 2-3 years.
